Meet a Member: A Series of Fireside Chats with WARP Members

This program is a series of monthly Fireside Chats (on Zoom) with a different WARP member each month. To keep these conversations intimate, each session will be limited to 25 participants. (This month with two sessions to choose from, one in English and one in Spanish.)
Elena Laswick grew up in Tucson, AZ, on a steady diet of mariachi, beans, folklórico, and Navajo rugs, which developed her sense of belonging somewhere between Latin America and the US and is why she is passionate about textiles, indigenous rights, and cultural preservation. She resides full time in Nebaj, Guatemala where she works with Maya Ixil weavers on small-scale private label design projects in her free time (as Ixil Collective). She also liaises with artisans in different parts of Guatemala and Peru (through a business partner in Cusco), as Amano Marketplace, all while working remotely for Capital Access as a Quality Control Manager, giving out COVID Emergency Rental funding in Pennsylvania.
Ixil Collective is a collaboration with Maya Ixil weavers living in the towns of Chajul, Cotzal and Nebaj in the Quiché region of Guatemala. Ixil Collective was created to help these remote artisans earn a more substantial market share. Amano Marketplace is a platform for Latin American artisans to share their designs and stories, where you can learn more about traditional art forms and find unique, handmade items. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis. Please only register if you are certain you can attend, to ensure no one misses the opportunity to participate. If the event is full, please register for the waitlist and we will notify you if space opens up. (And if we get a very long waitlist, we will add an additional session.) Please note that these programs will be recorded and shared on the members only section of the WARP website for interested members to watch later.

Este programa será conversaciones casuales, Fireside Chats, por Zoom, con miembros diferentes cada mes. Para mantenerlas íntimas, cada sesión será limitada a 25 participantes, con dos sesiones como opciones, una en inglés y una en español.
Elena Laswick creció en Tucson, AZ, rodeada de mariachi, frijoles, folklórico y tejidos Navajo, lo cual le causó su sentido de pertenencia en algún lugar entre América Latina y los EE. UU. e hiciera que le apasionaran los textiles, derechos de pueblos originarios y la preservación cultural. Ella hoy en día reside en Nebaj, Guatemala, donde trabaja con tejedores mayas Ixiles en proyectos de diseño de marca privada a pequeña escala en su tiempo libre (como "Ixil Collective"). También se relaciona con artesanos en diferentes partes de Guatemala y Perú (a través de una socia en Cusco, Perú), como "Amano Marketplace", todo mientras trabaja de forma remota para "Capital Access" otorgando fondos federales para la recuperación económica post-COVID en el estado de Pensilvania.
